I know it's probably been covered before,( I did a search but came up empty handed), but could someone explain the prefixes on the grey motor engine numbers. I know the FC ones start with L but the engine in my new project car is numbered B285240. Just curious as to which model this engine is from. Thanks in advance, Dave.

FX AND FJ up to the release of FE have no prefix
FE and FC have L prefix
FJ utes and vans made after the release of the FE have U prefix (these are rare to find)
FB and EK have B prefix
EJ has J prefix
