I was wondering if anyone can help me, I have a 161 red motor and I would like to put an unleaded converted head on it, I can get a 186 head which has already had the conversion but will it bolt straight on.

A red is a red, it should bolt straight on, with possible slight increase in Compression ratio as the 161 was a low compression motor ,in relation to the 186 that is Wink

Now if it was an almighty, all conquering grey motor it may be different Roll Eyes

Matey,

Before you bolt anything on which will ultimately run on unleaded, I would strongly recommend in getting the exhuast valve seat's hardened, otherwise you'll be coughing up heaps money a few miles down the track
with valves pulled up into the head and paying a bit more.

149 and 161 engines had closed chamber cylinder heads. They were high compression engines. Look at the back of the head near the heater tap outlet and their should be a L stamped for low compression or H for high compression if you want to make sure. The chamber size is what affects compression ratio.
