Hi guy. Ive had the ute on the road for the last few months but I've been having a problem with the rear screen nearly falling out. Its like the glass isnt big enough allowing the seal to much room to move. Has anyone else had this issue and if so who did you overcome it? Its a rarespares seal. Cheers Glenn

I’ve got a Rares rear screen rubber in my daughter’s EK ute. The holes for the two divider strips were waaaay off (and had to be redrilled) but other than that the fit is great.
Are you sure it is FE/FC glass? There was some discussion not too long ago (either here or the FB/EK forum) on how the later glass appears similar but is not.
Cheers, Harv

Yes, I agree with Harv, I seem to remember a discussion that went along the theme that people thought the centre section of the Ute glass was all the same between FE and EK. Apparently because of body sag issues in FE and FC utes, the glass in FB and EK is smaller. Not only the side pieces, but the centre section as well. The side pieces are easily distinguished as being different, but the centre section is only slightly smaller on FB EK.

From past experience, the FE/FC ute rears are different to the FB/EK rears. Rare Spares list different parts for both utes, so this would also suggest there is. From memory, the FE/FC are larger even though they are the same shape. So my question for Glenn is, are the glasses you have from the vehicle, or did you buy them? If the latter, then it could be possible that they are FB/EK, hence the reason they are falling out.

I'm with the rest of you guys, when I was gathering parts for Frankenstein (my EK Ute) I wound up with a couple of sets of back window glass and quickly noted that the sets were different so just had to figure out which was right for the EK and put the other one (FE/FC I assume) away. Neil

I should have mentioned that I have fitted both original glasses to both utes and apart from the divider bar holes being wrong. Both FE/FC and FB/EK were a good tight fit and sealed up well to the body.

Hi guys The glass was fitted before resto so it should be fc glass. Im have to every now and again push the glass and rubber back from the outside in and relip the rubber over the top body lip. Glenn

I’m not really familiar with utes but don’t the two retainer bars stop the windows from going out as you describe?

Hi Glenn, I’m trying to get my head around the problem, with this in mind there are a few questions. 1— did you have a new rubber fitted? 2— if so was it a tight or loose fit? 3—was the old rubber sealed or glued in? finally— is it possible to measure the glass at the joiner on both the corners and centre glass?

The seal is new and professionally fitted, the fitter actually said it was the easiest one he has fitted so i guess its loose. I will try to upload some photos to show the issue. Glenn

Yeah i did. He said no it should be loose then put his hand inside against the window and pushed, the whole window popped out, then goes yeah your right (no shit). His solution was to put sealastic on it which has not improved it at all if snything its worst because now sealastic goes everywhere when i try to get it back in place.

This to me shows the glass is to small, even though they were in the ute, doesn’t mean they are correct. I have fitted a few of these over the last few years and also a few FB/EK’s, one of which was Harv’s daughters ute. As stated before, each ute used the Rares rubber, and the only problem was the upright rubber having the holes in the wrong place. The middle holes are correct but depending on were the bar was placed, you had to drill out either the top or bottom hole to allow the bar to fit correctly. I’ve only ever had to seal the glass and body with normal mastic sealer.

I sure the guy fitting it had to redrill the two bottom holes for the dividers Glenn

you have fb-ek glass. when you put the fe-fc glass in it will fit perfectly. you can reuse your rubber, but you have the wrong glass. the glass you have is not fe-fc it is fb-ek. you need to buy fe-fc glass.

Just a thought, can you check on the glass for the date code on the "ARMOURPLATE" logo? My 1957 FE has the dot over the P for 1957, my FC has the dot over the L for 1958. I assume that the FB/EK would be different. Cheers Stewy

Great idea. Ive checked the main rear window and it has a very faint dot(if it is) over the T. Checked main rear section and its 330mm high just near the divider strip. Glenn

The dot over the T would make the year 0, so this would suggest the theory that they are FB/EK glasses. I’ve asked for measurements from FE/FC glass so we can compare the two.
