I am not sure if my engine temperature sender unit is working or not, How can I test it to see if it is. If I short out the wire on it to the body the light works.
The milion dollar question is how do I know if it will come on when the engine it hot.  Huh

A rough way of checking it out is to take it out and hang it in a tin of boiling water and using a multimeter or continuity tester across the terminal and body of the switch--you should have a circuit.

I have used this method too, works very well. The resistance should change as the water cools.
