I know I have read somewhere on the forum what these codes mean ... as in , representing numerals ... or year of introduction ??

I think it was explaied by one of the WA guys on the radio at the Nats , but I was talking to Zulu and missed most of it !!!

Anyone help ???

Cheers , Dave .

They did up to a point until Ford or the Media worked it out, then I think it was just random  :-\

Gidday everyone I 've rejoined the forum after a few years abscence as I still have the interest, just not the car anymore :'( although I am pretty happy with my humpie, anyway, a bit of trivia I came across on another forum about how models were designated between FJ and EH. The letters L, K,J,H,G,F,E,D,C,B represented the digits 0 to 9 in that order and represented the year of release (or planned release?). I can see why they would leave out the "I" to avoid confusion with "1" but can't see why they would have left out the "A"...

Anyway starting with the FJ, it comes up as 52 (intended release year) and works for each model's release year except for the FB (which was also released later than planned): FJ = 52; FE = 56; FC = 58; FB = 59; EK = 61; EJ = 62; and EH = 64.

Cheers
Doug

that is gold.. never knew that.
so where did FX? come from. I understand it is not an official label for the 48.

fcwrangler

From what I understand, the FX came from a spare parts guy who was fed up with people asking for FJ parts when the had a 48/215. So in his frustration he took it upon himself to use the FX prefix for his own use , and it snowballed from there.

FX came from the design drawings of a running change to the front (F) cross (X) member (FX) so far as I know ...they were marked FX and the name stuck

According to the books the HD was named after it's designer, David Hegland. Dunno after that.

I saw the pic of the EF again at our meeting tonight. Which would have been after the EH if the code continued. I definitely prefer the HD.

Yep I was close but no cigar!

Glad it wasn't in from the outset ... would of made the 48 -215 a GC :D

Thanks for the correction  ;)

awesome link explaining it all..

so why in the late 70s did Holden name their car after a bad 70's band headed by Lionel Ritchie?   ;D
