Hey guys,

I picked up an Air Cheif radio recently, the bloke I got it off said it was out of an FJ.It seems to be in pretty good nick and still has all its knobs and wires etc,and the bloke said it was still working when he pulled it out of the car in 1974.I was just wondering if anyone could give me a rough idea of what its worth......?

thanks

Hi Weedy,

I've seen a restored Air Chief radio for FE FC for sale for $550.00, while I recently purchased an AWA unit in very good working order for just under half of this.

You may remember Alex's excellent post which showed some different types of radios, mine is like the one in the middle.

I'm sure the "GURU" will be able to shed more light......

Cheers,

Craig.

Now here's a funny thing - from my experience, the FJ fraternity are not into accessories in a big way.
Certainly here in Victoria - an accessory which would be big dollars for an FC is only worth half as much for FJ.

I have seen FJ venetians not sell for $50 and spats not sell at $40 !!!!!!!

I really don't know what the radio would be worth, but my guess is about half what an FC one is worth.

Weedy,  I have found a picture of your radio in the NASCO Accellerator magazine - June 1956.
It appears to be a Vauxhall radio.
This can be confirmed if the black plastic surround can be removed and put back on upside down, as this is the way it is shown in the picture.
If you like I can send you a copy of the picture or I can try scanning it, but I'm not sure how it will come out as I only have a photocopy.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your help in identifying the radio,I pulled the black facia off as you suggested and it does fit either way.Shame its not out of an early holden but I guess I cant complain for $10.I think It'll end up in my dads FC untill he can find an origional one.

Thanks again

Hi Weedy,

$10.00. That's cheap for the only part of a Vauxhaul worth owning!!!! The guy probably picked it up off the ground after the rest of the car rotted away Wink

How much of a "guru" is Ken?

On the Sydney Footy Show they have this guy that they hammer with Rugby League questions and he answers all sorts of wacky and obscure stuff correctly.

I think we are pretty lucky to have access to the FE FC equivalent!!!

Hope your old man likes the radio.

Cheers,

Craig.
