With the motor and box in place, we could now fit up the Speco floor shifter. Any floor shifter requires a hole in the floor, here is what we cut out.

A bit of massaging, triming and welding and the floor was once again intact and provided the needed clearance.

Body and mechanicals were now at a stage where we could turn our attention to the swinging panels and guards.
Here we mocked up the louvred bonnet and guards that were to be used on the car. 3/11/05.

Bonnet was stripped of the old paint. 11/11/05.

Guards needed the usual rust repairs on all 3 corners, as well as new headlight inners installed. 19/11/05.

Here's a pic of the RH doors in hifill and fitted up awaiting the next stage. 19/11/05.

With the motor in the car, we fitted up the twin carbies and Jack Myer headers, in preparation of the next job.....the exhaust system. 19/11/2005.

We sent the car to Tony's where it was fitted up with a complete custom exhaust from the headers back, that is fully flanged. 6/12/2005.



The red suspension components were later removed and painted beige for a co-ordinated look.
As can also be seen in the pics, the passenger front door is completed and hung at this point.

Alex i noticed you had a twin system in one pic then a single on the next, why the change, i was thinking of a twin system on my 202 would it work ok? or lose what i have in note/performance? cool pics mate keep em coming

Hey Phantom, The way I read the add for the Jack Myer Headers is that they were designed to go into a single 2 inch tail pipe.



Strange ay, maybe it was part of the marketing so you wouldn't have to fiddle around with your tailpipe brackets

It was around this time that we scored some NOS, period correct air filters on ebay.
We managed to pick up 5, but they were meant to fit SU's on an MGB. (Sorry, we are not selling the spares. Might come in handy down the track.)
New bases were made to fit the strommies.

With most of the panels repaired, it was time for another coat of hifill, ahead of lots more sanding. 18/12/2005.

Hey Alex,
it was good to see the finished car at the nationals and even better seeing all the work that went into the making of bad girl.
I have if you are interested a nos brake/clutch fluid reservoir the same as your clutch master res.

The reservoirs are not interchangeable. 1 has different thread to the other.

Sorry Stinky, been a bit slow on the progress reports.
Those last pics were taken at Alf's, just after he applied the second coat of hi fill. It took John and I a couple of days to sand down the car, just to have the second coat applied, knowing we would need to do it all over again. Our manual labour will be worth it in the end, when the final finish turns out straight.
It was then back off for home.

Before any paint was applied, we took the opportunity to sort out some of the details such as trial fitting up the chrome work, drilling needed holes, sorting out door gaps etc. These things are important to do before paint, to ensure the best result possible. We also sourced some 14" rims on this forum and threw them on to get an idea on stance......and height.  Wink 24/12/2005.

Time for some paint.
The first parts to be painted were the panels.
We hired a spray booth and Alf started to add some colour.
A base was sprayed on, inside and out, before the final coats of colour and the top coat were added to all interior surfaces. The reason for this is that the panels will be refitted to the car and final colour will be added at the same time for the entire outside of the car.


Panels were moved out into the sun after baking for that little bit extra heat.

With the panels in colour inside and out, it was time to move the project back to Alf's, where the body and the remaining panels were put into base colour. 28/1/2006.

With all panels and body now in base colour, it was time to bolt everything back together. Then we had to colour sand the entire car till it was nice and smooth. 30/01/06.
