Does any one know the where abouts of a custom fe that featured in the Australian hotrodding review dated January 1969.
It had basicly been changed into an HD Shocked, front and rear as well as the interior,it was built by a David Chapman in Melbourne.
I last saw it at the craft market on the St kilda esplanade about 1985 i think, it was still painted in "Hannons Gold", Alex would just love this one!
Cheers

I don't know the whereabouts, but photos of the car have been featured here before.  I've also done an article on the car in the NSW Club magazine.  It's an extremely impressive piece of panel-work, no matter what your opinion of the HD (even one owner editions Grin)

cheers

Wow.....1985 eh. If it survived that long, chances are it's still out there. This is good news. I may get to see it in the flesh 1 day. I wonder if it's for sale?
Hey Deano, thanks for the update.

Kathy,

Hang on a minute.  If it belonged to a fellow forum or club member you'd be getting flamed deluxe right about now, and deserving it. :-/

I wouldn't do it to my car, nor would I be all that interested in owning it, but I sure appreciate the work that has gone into it.

Like all customising, it's not about what others might find appealing.  This car is Mr Chapman's personal expression, and that's that.

cheers

;)RET - Just expressing my views too!  Some people might like it - unfortunately I'm not one of them.  I am sorry if that offends anybody but we should all be entitled to an opinion, one way or the other.  Cheers Hotlips.

Kathy,

You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, everyone is.  The point I am trying to make is that it doesn't really benefit anyone to print it here for posterity.

Consider if the shoe were on the other foot: someone posts pics of an SA Club run, with a good close-up of your car.  Somebody replies, and rips into your personal touches on it, saying how much they dislike what you've done with it.

How would you feel?  You would probably think "it's my car, it's how I like it and I don't give a toss what you think".  And: "what gives you the right to criticize it?" etc etc.  That's all - I'm not looking to pick a fight, nothing could be further from the truth.  But being critical of others' taste just gets no-one anywhere.  We're all entitled to our opinions, but we don't necessarily have to share them.

Only seven weeks 'til we can debate this over a drink and 50+ FEs.  Gotta love that! Grin

cheers

Steady on RET........!

This is a GENERAL topic board that Kathleen has posted on...
She has only expressed her thoughts, as have you in a more P.C. way...
And don't forget, people who customize a car to make it look totally different, don't just do it to challenge their welding skills, they do it to be different, to be noticed, to stir reactions and get people talking.
I agree with you that the guy or girl who customised this car, is bloody clever, but no need to grill kathleen for posting her view on the thread.....it was just that... a view...no need to turn hiccups into speedbumps.

What's important is that who ever was looking for it has found it, and we have all shared in this great story and piece of holden customising history, and can live in this great free country where an Aussie can call a spade a spade, and share a beer at the same time.

As far as the car goes...does it sort of resemble a Renault in anyway ?    I'm not good with my Non-Holden car marques, but it looks very European at the front.

HOLDEN = YUK !

CUSTOM = Very Euro cool !

Didn't this happen only a fortnight or so ago?  Why should the rules be different just because the car doesn't belong to a forum member?

cheers little bit over it,

Heck...after reading that link, it's no wonder you've posted a WANTED ad.

On the topic of customising, and seeing this FE customised with HD parts, and also the TWIN headlight car that belongs to a forum member, does anyone know of any other holdens that were customized to look more like an FC or FE ?

The only car I can think that was made to look FC when it wasn't, was a turquoise coloured FX/FJ that had FC headlight rims, and a heap of other mods.

I've seen FC's with HX/ HZ ute taillights, EJ taillights, EK tail lights, HD fronts, twin light fronts...has any one got pics of other models using FE/FC parts Huh?

Would be cool to see.

Excellent idea Blown , i would love to see pics of mods made to FE/FC's  and any other early Holdens with mods made to them . i really like Alex's modified car , (cant wait to see it in the flesh at the nats) and i;m sure there will be a lot of modified FE/FC's, it just goes to show that people are willing to put in heaps of hard work and planning to "individualize" these great model cars we are driving and put their own personal touch to them.
                                       Cheers Rusty

Rusty, I know that in one of my Holden books, there is a pic and advert from the late 50's early 60's, of a Kit car body you could by that you put your holden running gear into.

Can't recall the details off hand, but is was a very low slung 2 door sports coupe looking thing with big wheel arches.
Think it was called a Holden - ? or maybe it was a ? - Holden, probably named after the guy who designed it.   Either way, it was an interesting custom for what would have been NEW holdens around the time of FC's

Maybe someone else knows what I'm going on about and can post a pic.

Hey Blown-FC,i think you are referring to the Bolwell markV with grey motor as one of the choice engine combo's.
Is this the one,as it ran 3 main engines and box's,the big hp was with a worked Ford 6cyl or Holden Grey motor.
.or this with the 186S that was very quick and i must say very very good power to weight ratio.
. Mark v1.
mate had the Mark v1 in 1978 he picked up secondhand, and it was scary fast with his hot 192HP motor and 4 speed , they changed to the Ford v8's in 1978-9.
the one off special they built did over 150MPH with a Holden 6 running tripple's and lots of Repco goodies ,it was mounted in reverse to a 5 speed transaxle.
