EBAY WARNING

Hi all.

I have just received what I think are two fake emails purportedly from Ebay.

They have the following headers;

VERIFY YOUR DATA WITH EBAY INC [Tue, 31 Jan 2006 00:24:46 -0100]

and

EBAY ALERT: UNAUTHORIZED LOGIN ATTEMPTS [Mon, 30 Jan 2006 22:23:40 -0300]

The latter has a GIF file attchment called Agreeable.GIF and asks for credit card details, including a PIN number.  

I am awaiting confirmation from Ebay that these are fake, but it looks like it.

If you receive anything vaguely like this don't respond and change your password.

If this is old news, my apologies, I'd hate anyone to get caught.

If Ebay ever contacts you via email, there will also be a copy of it in your ebay messages.

They will never ask you to confirm your details via email.

These a-holes must be getting people with this scam, or they wouldn't keep sending them... I'll get at least one a week.

Yes me too i get at least one a week also have changed passwords lotsa times as someone keeps trying to use my account

I read an item the other day that referred to phishers, spammers and the like as e-holes.

I had a bad experience with ebay scams.

I listed my motorcycle on allclassifieds. com and somehow one of these scammers obtained access to someone elses ebay account and listed my bike on ebay.

When the owner of the ebay account discovered this, they contacted me, and it was then we established we were both being scammed.

Ebay sorted it out quickly though.

I think they must use some sort of softwear to identify duplicate contact information and when they find a match, try and tap into accounts.

As SRVLIVES says ebay don't ask for updates to your account,credit card details & least of all your pin when they have them already - if ebay sends an email they will address you as your ebay user ID as opposed to scam mails - 'dear ebay member'
On ebay they explain how to check for these scams via the 'help' at top of the page when you log in.

After my ebay experience I now adopt the attitude - if it looks suspicious then it probably is - delete!
Same with banks - you receive requests for details via snail mail as email is too unsecure

 The safestway to check if the e mail is realy from ebay is to forward the complete e mail to (spoof@ebay.com.au). DO NOT OPEN OR MODIFY IT. You will verey quickly receive a return e mail from ebay confirming if it is or is not a fake. I was caught by one of em when I first listed with ebay and It caused me much grief .

I had exactly the same thing happen to me. I emailed EBAY directly and as mentioned unless you get DIRECT personal email with the correct EBAY id etc it is totally fake and is to be reported and ignored. The more that this is reported the better it is to all EBAY users and the provider they were very happy and obliging for me to have reported it.
