I know this is a risk,I spoke to an old guy on Saturday who swore black and blue that some of the early 48's definately came with Canadian blocks with more metal between the water jackets and cylinder bores, so they were good for high performance.Well for a grey that is.

sooner or later someone has to submit the grey canadian myth to mythbusters.
everyone used to have a hot canadian grey, now we find out they never existed.

Like I said, Guys. If someone can PROVE they existed & present me with a REAL Canadian block, I will give that person a $5000 reward!
Proving doesn't mean knowing an old fella who USED to have one. Gurus have proved it was a myth, Holden said they never existed, the misconceptions to how the original idea of a "Canadian Grey" have been talked about & we know where the mistaken idea came from. But up to this point, I have not ONE shred of evidence (Apart from about 3,000 "Old Guys" who used to have one) to prove they did exist.

These are even rarer than the thick walled Canadian Greys fitted to early FE's, the ones with the gold horn buttons.



Sorry, I didn't mean to start off the Canadian grey thing again, I just thought it was pretty funny that now a Canadian red had turned up.

Ahhhh, yes.
That one IS a Canadian block, Craig. You can tell the red motor Canadians, because they painted those ones red, the colour that the Maple leaf on the Canadian flag is & Red is also a Canadians favourite colour...................ALL TRUE, An "Old Guy" told me!

p.s. You can also see the sheen it has on the block, that is from the Maple Strup they use the lubricate the motors.

new looking holley & manifold, newish looking alternator, extractors, 2bbl manifold, chrome engine mount plates, chrome rocker cover, braided hose, most probably a steel crank, wonder whats inside, it could be a alright deal for $350, even if its made by australians.
shame it doesnt have a real hp sump.

Hey Graham,
now you see why i said dont bother ,the experts who use Holden records (joke books) anyone who knows will tell you how useless they are compared to Ford Australia for example,and expertly written books from dare i say it (Holden Records)hahaha lol.and old blokes memories(yes the other old blokes who's word is gospel)because they worked on Holdens assembly line or were sales reps for Holden dealer in 1957,(yes they must be experts) of course guys who invented such things as crank supports or what have you and could get grey motors (always 2plug water jacket)blocks to rev past 6000rpm on track and referred to them as Canadian Blocks must all be old fools according to Rob and a few others,
if you speak to any of the old racers they refer to grey 2 plug blocks as having truer alignment of bores with near no core shift and thicker steel to allow big bores ,.but ask rob and craig they will set you straight.(lol)
as when it suits they are all either old experts or old fools,
so much for fair play in the records or memories stakes.
