Guys,

A question on behalf of fellow club member Charlie Boozer:

He's looking to purchase a NOS "Gearbox Major Overhaul Kit", but is hoping to find out whether this kit includes the "Counter Gear Shaft" p/n 7400227.  Perhaps one of the gurus might know whether this component was part of this kit?

If it's any help this is item #65 on the exploded parts diagram in the MPC.

cheers

RET,

There is one of these on Ebay at present, it is listed under EJ - are they the same?

John,

Good spotting.  That's the counter-gear, but what Charlie needs is the shaft that this is mounted on, that has needle-bearings at either end.  I'm just trying to clarify if the "major overhaul" kit includes this.

The part number for that one looks like it might be for a red crash-box rather than a grey though.  I know the EJ gear-box has a separate bell-housing, but I'm not sure whether the internals are any different.  The range of vehicles that part on Ebay is supposed to fit looks a bit suss.  I could be wrong - I don't have an MPC that goes past FB handy to check it.

Charlie / Ret

I purchased a major gearbox overhaul kit from the NOS parts place at Redfern / Newtown

It is a CBC brand kit & includes the lay shaft, I rang CBC Australia but they said they no longer do them as a kit, however they are going to see if they can make up a kit & will get back to me next week.

If that fails it may be worth your while to contact Terry/Perry or Mike.

The kit I got appears complete & in good nik & comes with a book of instructions.

Gary

PS CBC Kit code is H1000STD FX, FJ, FC, FB, EK
Contains Bearings, seals, gaskets, small parts kit & layshaft.
