woe #1: I have a problem with lack of initial oomph when accelerating under load. I Suspect a gummed up carby. What is the best cleaning solvent to use for a dismantled carby?
woe #2: despite many attempts to tighten the pipe union, I have a slight weeping from the brake master cylinder where the large brass union screws in.
Tried another washer, no luck. Is it something to do with the machined grooves on the face of the master cyl. outlet not matching the washer face?

Did you try a new washer?  Old copper hardens and will not reseat.

question#1 if the carb is still on the car spray some carb cleaner down the guts of it while she is idiling,DO NOT REV IT !!!!!.
Best stuff iwill always use is STD carb cleaner
If the carb is off the car strip it down and let it sit in a closed tin of carb cleaner over night, this stuff is like magic,

Question #2 try a new washer with a VERY light smear of grease on the surface where it joins to the m/cyl
was way work for me

Rabbitoh,
Heat up the copper washer with a blow torch, let it cool and then fit it to the master cylinder. This will work with new or old copper washers as long as they are in good condition Wink
