I am chasing the metal strips which run between the boards in the back of a ute or van,  might be easier to make out of steel strip and can someone tell me the type of timber used.also a good hood lining to suit a ute, colour not important but condition is.

Hi Scott, for the Ute floor I bought a sheet of 6mm marine ply.  I got a great price $49.00 from an FC owner who happened to work there, not a club member tho, he let me choose the grain.  Cut it to size and dropped it in.  A coat of external Estapol and it looks great.

My steel runners are rusty on the underside, so I'll buy some 1 inch x 1/8 flat and make new ones. I think it'll be a lot easier than cleaning the old ones.

Thanks for your reply Kevin, im going to look into different types of wood.
priced some alloy checker plate and now ill have to price the wood and see which one wins .
