Head will fit OK, if you put a low compression head on an engine which previously had a high compression head, you will most certainly have less compression.  Head ismarked "H" if is a high comp head.

Hi Guys.

What Ken has said about the hi-comp & lo-comp heads is correct.

But, you will find that an original 149 head & an original 161 head are near identical, their combustion chambers are the same small kidney shaped item. As a matter of fact the early 161 heads have the same casting number. So, to answer your question it will fit  & nothing will change.

AFAIK the only change was the addition of the extra small water outlet hole, at the front of the head to suit the 161's 3-bolt thermostat housing to suit the water heated manifold hoses. The 149 had no water hole there & only 2 of the bolt holes were used.
