I headed down to Coledale on Sunday morning (with the SSEHCC guys) to check out some of the vintage caravans camped out for the weekend. This was the first get together of a group of vintage caravaners who only met throught the http://www.vintagecaravans.com/ wesite and forum.... Some of them hadn't even met in person until the weekend...

Pretty good turn out...! Here are a few pics from the day....

Gary (Zulu) was there and may be able to add more info... Wink

Cheers
Les.....

The 2 tone blue FC looks familiar.
I sold it about 10 years ago and hadn't seen it since, until now.
Does anyone know who owns it?

Hi
The owner of the two tone blue FC also owns the Chev & matching van. The car is kept at Bulli and was at the FE  FC nationals this year. The car is much loved (& used) by its current owners.
I also visited Coledale & I must admit they are a friendly lot. It was a great display of Vintage vans, lots of lovely early Holdens and some other makes.
I will most definatly visit again next year.
My advice is if you can visit them next year do so & if you have a pre 1970s van get involved you wont be dissapointed.

Hey Ace...
That FC is owned by Lynelle and John Titcume of Bulli (as FC_Driver says). They live at Bulli. Lynelle is (or at least was) the President of the South Coast Early Holden Car Club in Wollongong. Here they are with their Chev...

Here's a couple more pics.... this one is of the inside of Zulu's (Gary's) van... It was interesting for me as I've just been on a 2-week caravaning holiday with the family in a 2004 model Jayco Flamingo ... not sure if all 5 of us wouldv'e all fitted in here for 2 weeks... even with the annex!

The 48/FJ Club of NSW was also down there for their monthly run so there was plenty of old Holdens to look at as well....

my old girl... Tongue

... and yes Graham, because of this year's success I think they are talking about making it an annual event, so it should be even bigger next year Wink

Cheers

Coming down Bulli Pass was a bit hairy, 1st gear was too slow and second was a bit too quick, it's only a small van so it doesn't have any brakes. Anyway I was leaning on the brakes a fair bit,  we finally got to the bottom in one piece and headed towards Coledale, came to a red light....no brakes they had suffered major fade, just managed to pull up  Tongue

Thanks for visiting and putting up the pics Hewart, the wife and I had a great weekend, well I convinced her she did anyway! Wink

It was a little crowded in the van come bedtime, Kiss so we decided to sleep at opposite ends to balance things up. I drew the short straw & took the bunk, about 4.30 am CRACKKK I fell through the bloody thing Roll Eyes luckily it was the bottom bunk so I didn't have far to fall, shored it up at daybreak with a few timbers & it was right as rain that night.

That was the only time I went in there, oh and to get  beer out of the icebox.

The Camping site is right on Coledale beach, free electric BBQ'S, big campfire at night (courtesy of John & Lynelle, pictured), a few Fords and other breeds but mostly Holdens, 15 caravans in all.

There are only 4 powered sites at Coledale, & they went early, we had a torch & a fellow adventurer loaned us a kero lamp.

It was great fun and a great bunch of people, this was the inaugural run for the east coast members (the club is based in WA) it was called the "East coast get together." Some members of this site are also members of the Vintage Caravans site

We will definatley be going again next year, oh & going back up Bulli Pass ? 1st gear most of the way up.

Hope to have the bigger van ready by then, vintage caravans are bit like old Holdens, once you are bitten by the bug, you are hooked, or is that hitched.

Gary

Thanks for the info on my old car Les and FC_Driver, it still looks as good as when i sold it. I was mainly interested in seeing if the person i sold it to was still the owner, apparently not. Great Pics of the cars and caravans Les Wink

From Zulu:

"It was great fun and a great bunch of people, this was the inaugural run for the east coast members (the club is based in WA) it was called the "East coast get together." Some members of this site are also members of the Vintage Caravans site"

mmmm............there's that word .... "club" :-/ :-/, just to set the record straight, we are in fact, not a "club" ....just a group of people who enjoy a common interest in old caravans, and communicate via a website .........  Wink Wink

I'm delighted with the interest shown by you guys, and the great photos you have posted  Cheesy Cheesy

We, the vintage vanners in WA, have done a display at the Hot Rod show this weekend at the Burswood dome .....have a look at the vintage caravan site next week for pics (sorry, no FC's, but there is an EK  Wink).

Cheers

Vintage Caravanners ....... They're all mad  !!!

they buy these old things, then spend the rest of their lives talking about them, rebuilding them, painting  them, cleaning them, talking about them, modifying them, taking photos of them, travelling around the countryside with them, talking about them, buying more of them (one is never enough)talking about them, dreaming about them

( doesnt it all seem familiar)

Cool Cool Cool
