Hello ppl, Just thought i would post a pic of some work I have been doing lately. I haven't really contributed anything useful forum wise so this may be interesting. there was some talk about car stereo a little while back, which got me thinking into how to instal a relatively discreet system. after much brain scratching on where to put the amps I found a spot (see pic). Under the rear floor of course, I may need to vent the floor better but hey at least they are out of sight. A simple tube frame keeps it bolted down, and also stops my spare from wandering and smashing the amps. the MDF board to the right is for the electrics. 4AWG wire feeds a fused distribution block, which in turn feeds the amps via 8AWG wire (now fitted but not pictured). dynamat was used to stop panel vibration and resonance. Nice big RCA leads feed the amps from the head unit. you can see the battery tray, top of stainless tank, and where the spare wheel fits (snugly). A low profile, narrow 14inch tyre was best suited for this area. Next up, will be making the lids (or floor) from 12mm MDF. and the car is coming home to fix up some loose ends before the trimmer works his magic. all for now. Cheers Ed

Nice goin Ed, Good to see progress! My FC had the REAL music system installed a few weeks back too. A good mate of mine works at Carline muuflers. We did a twin 3" with a X pipe then twin 2 1/2" back to the rear of the car. It was touch & go whether it would fit that size over the diff, not to mention brake lines, fuel pump, fuel filter & shockies all playing their part to be in the way.But he got it all in there with 2 spiral flow mufflers right at the back of the car. l had the same motor in my HG ute before the FC with a twin 2 1/4" but it wasnt big enough, although it had a nicer note( a bit more sedate) The FC sounds totally different, probably too loud for me but we'll wait & see how it goes, its weird because at idle & up to 2000 rpm it has a raspy, tubular note & over 2000 it has a completely different note, you'd swear it's a different car. Anyway good luck with the trimming! Daz

Hey Daz, your car sounds pretty wild!! i know what you mean about shockies, fuel pumps, diff, tanks all getting in the way of the exhaust. we decided to go under the diff for a better result. some heat tape to protect the lift pump. I thought this was going to cause a big headache but no problems in the end. the car is getting inspected on Friday, fingers crossed... Cheers Ed

the car was just inspected by the engineer.
the inspection went very well with only a few items / photos required for the certificate.
1) external rear view mirror. 2) fan shroud fitted. 3) window stamps etc on the windows which are not fitted at present.
the brake test will need to be reperformed as the car was not travelling fast enough to get the required reading.
With light pedal effort it still managed 0.8G.
the car then decided it was going to have a no start.. hmpph, the dizzy had moved and static timing was slightly out.
in this state, it managed to pass the noise test 94 (or 96??) dB at 3000 rpm. (and wouldnt pass at 2850!)
all in all.. Very happy!
The certifying engineer Peter Gillard is worth a call if you need an engineer.
Cheers
Ed
