I am about to pull the grey out of my car for a few mods and want to get a new harmonic balancer as the rubber in the existing one is perished.

American Autos lists harmonic balancer rubbers (approx $7) and new harmonic balancers (approx $70). My engine reconditioner said the new balancer would be better because it is difficult to re-rivet the old ones. He also thought the new one would be a similar style (one piece?) to red motor balancers. Are these balancers actually better or just easier to make? I have also heard others mention alternatives (Massey Ferguson??) for hot greys.

Any input on these options appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave,
I had my grey reco'd last year and the new balancer does look like that off a red motor.Apparently the old type aren't being reco'd anymore and supposedly the new type are better.Mine has caused no problems to date and the engine is nice and smooth.
Cheers,
Graham

Go with the newer red style balancer, the old ones are shocking, you might as well just bolt any old piece of round 1/4 inch plate on the front Wink

$70 is a good price as Rares over here quoted me $95.

My motor runs the new style one from rares and it's been good so far, looks a lot neater than the old one.
