Bob,

I would reckon 21-22 secs for a stocky grey is about right, with about 18 - 19 secs for a stocky red 186/202 in an FE/FC.

A little bit of work to a red (carby/extractors/street cam) and you should shave a couple of secs off easy.

Cheers,

Craig.

"Cars" magazine, November 1956, had an FE Holden/Mk II Zephyr comparison:

FE Holden:
0 - 60 mph: 19.4 secs
0 - 70 mph: 30.1 secs
Standing 1/4 mile: 22.2 secs

Zephyr:
0 - 60 mph: 17.6 secs
0 - 70 mph: 25.7 secs
Standing 1/4 mile: 21.1 secs

"Wheels" magazine, February 1960 had a road test of the FB:

0 - 60 mph: 20.4 secs
0 - 70 mph: 33.0 secs
Standing 1/4 mile: not reported

Neck snapping stuff.

NSW Club Member Mal Owen (aka "MalFE") ran an 18.97 quarter in his road-registered FE Sedan in 1965.  The most recent issue of Sideplate had an article on this.

cheers

Bob,

My mate used to run a grey powered FJ that did mid 15's, but I think some did go slightly quicker. Maybe Alex would know more accurate times as he has a good collection of early magazines.

Here's a picture of the car after he turned it into a road race car, and a picture of his EH called "Bobcat". Red motor powered and ran into the 13's back in the early 70's. A couple of his other race cars are also shown.

Another one that shows the lengths people can go to get the old grey up and going, Repco cross flow head and triple webers on a grey!! Serious stuff!!

But at least the Bluebird had a stroked Holden 308 (355), and the Honda had a 350. Japanese on the outside only!!

I love these old race car shots as well.

Cheers,

Craig.
