Heat shield/sound deadener

Before I hit the shops I thought I'd check to see what people have used and what works well in the sound/heat shielding dept.
Three options at the moment are
1. Dynamat - good rep, expensive
2. Quality Heat Shield - as advertised in Just Parts, looks OK and I'd probably use it on the firewall
3. Jaycar sound deadener - most stuff from Jaycar is OK and I would use this where heat is not a problem.

Any advice, tips, recommendations appreciated.

Cripes Ed! Do you know the owner of the dynamat factory?  

A great tip (never used yet) to stop panel resonance, was to liquid nail a strip of wood to the inside of the door. This is supposed to act as a strengthening rib.

The "Quality Heatshield" as best as I can make out is the same as Dynamat, 9mm thick with layers of aluminum, polymer and fibre. I can get this locally for $99 for a 122x183cm piece.

How does the Dynamat compare?

It's amazing how much dynamat you need.  While some of the guys in car audio are putting up to 3 layers I think it is ridiculous... the old holden panels are thicker and it is amazing how dead the panels are now. they go THUNK.  Next up I am going to de-rattle the door lock and opening push rods.

i got Dynamat at the following rate. 12 sq ft of Dynamat = $300.

it is very thin, sticky, and easy to apply, it came in at the same cost as the Jaycar stuff.  it is about 2mm thick.. can go under any trim etc.

Dynamat is more for deadening and limiting panel vibration than heat, but i guess it would deflect some heat due to the silver backing.

There is cheaper but I cant vouch for its performance. i would not want this coming down on to the headliner.  

Floors may be better with a cheaper item, what is your deadener called?  I may double layer the front floor using that.

overkill... yep.

I am installing a decent SQ sound system... and going to eat my words when I said "a wagon has poor acoustics".

dynamat = $300 per 36 square ft, not 12 as previously stated.

note this stops panel resonance only.
