Can anyone help with wiring up a red six starter?
The kit I am using has two wires marked -
"Solenoid Power" and "Ign Switch Start".
There is a top and bottom connection on the solenoid, then the larger nut and thread connector.

Hey Stinky,

try
battery + to starter motor (threaded shaft and nut attachment),
solenoid power to  starter Solenoid (should be spade terminal or similar).
Ignition switch start to the start position

so when start is hit, the solenoid powers up and starter motor turns.

Sorry Ed, you lost me a little there.
There are two spade connections on the solenoid, I need to know which wire goes to which connection.

Stinky,

If it were me I'd just try connecting one to positive and see what happens..

It should go "click" when powered up, it's just a powered switch that can take big current.

Thanks Ed, I went to an auto electrician today for some wire and he said one was IN and one was OUT (LPG solenoids and the like). If it doesn't work when plugged into one, try the other.

Hi Glen.

The one marked 'solenoid power' should be the bottom spade terminal when mounted in the car. This is the one to use.

The top spade terminal (Ign start) is not used on Holdens. Somebody has replaced this solenoid (or just the cap) before with a 'universal' one. The extra terminal is used to by-pass ballast resistors in Fords etc.

Damn Yankee wiring kits, I did what I should have done in the first place and called the supplier.

Solenoid Power, a big thick red wire goes to the same terminal that the battery positive goes to, it's the main power supply wire.

"Ign Switch Start" must go to the bottom spade connector.

Hi Stinky, hope your having fun in my old wagon! The second spade connector is usually only used to supply 12 V power to the coil to bypass the resistor when the starter is cranking. If using a points ignition I would use it. If not just leave it unconnected.

That clutch is a heavy sucker isn't it? Is this the red for the wagon or the sedan? The Auto sure will sort that clutch problem. Did you get the steering wheel okay? I miss the old girl but looking forward to the Chev's debut this Sunday.
