quarter vent reassembly

Just wondering is there any trick to replacing glass in the quarter vents? I bought some rubber strip from Scotts Old Auto rubber (I assume this was a generic type) and have spent all day trying to put the glass back in to the re-chromed channels with this rubber. Apart from requiring more force than I can supply, the rubber tears every time where the channel cuts into it.

The rubber I have is 1.5mm thickness so I assume I need something a bit thinner. Anyone have any recommended suppliers (i.e. stuff that works for FE/FC)?

Take it down to your local windscreen bloke and he can glue them in with a product called "Sikaflex".

You can buy this at a good auto parts store but in comes in a cartridge and you will pay around $20 a tube

Sikaflex make a few product so make sure you get the one for gluing glass.

The Sikaflex product range includes a window sealant which means that the rubber is not really required. Just put a reasonable bead off Sikaflex in the channel and push the glass into place. For a neat finish the excess can be wiped off with thinners.
