Strictly speaking the hose outlets should come through the firewall on the right hand side of the strengthening rib, but the design of my heater element (with the elbow in the outlets) meant that was neither feasible nor sensible, since that would have pointed the hoses up towards the passenger side bonnet spring, instead of back towards the engine. So the element has been spun 120 degrees clockwise. As I said in a previous post, there seems to be quite some variety in heater element design. Other ones - such as Graham Fuller's - have the rubber hoses going through the firewall, to connect to very short outlets in the back of the element.
