Hey guys I have the origanal block out of my ute, I checked the bore size at 3.165 which is a hell of a lot bigger than the 3" that the book states for a fe. The pistons out of it have the Numbers RA2076 040 which I take to mean .040" overbore?
A 138 with a .040" overbore still only comes to 3.102" How far do they go? is there no casting changes to the bore thickness between the two blocks?
To make matters even more interesting, my parts man tells me that the only pistons still available for a grey is the 3.165" or .040" over size pistons, is this the case?
Anyway hope someone can shed some light on this for me,

The number looks like and old Repco one. I've got a set of Repco RP2076 F40 pistons. They are 3 and 1/8"+.040 thou over (3.165"). Gives you 147.5 cubes. Does yours have the tear drop style oil drains on the outside of the pistons going from the bottom ring groove down towards the gudgeon pins??
ACL and JP have pistons up to 151 cubes for greys.

Removed my last post to stop confusion but am still keen to see a chart or table showing piston size, how many thou over that relates too and what the final cubes is if anyone has one or the time to create one as I obviously had it wrong  |

just been measuring bore, maybe I'm wrong but thats what my books been telling me, and I agree it would be .090". Have only started to look at parts and how hard they are to get.

yes they do have that oil drain, my parts man at Coventrys has the ACL books and he was telling me that the 3+1/8+.040" was all I could get now! Do they greys have any over heating or cracking problems when you get them out to 151ci?

It's easy to work out what the cubes will be with a known overbore size. Pye x piston radius squared x stroke length x number of cylinders, give you CID. Easy  Cheers Tony |

If that's all you can get then go with it. The extra cubes will give you more horses, plus having the bore larger than the stroke, it revs like all buggery  Nah , never had a prob with overheating with the 147 slugs, cant see the bigger ones giving any probs either. Ask ChrisB what he thinks of the 151 slugs, he has had his bored out to this. Check out ACL and JP web sites, last time I looked they both had the big bore slugs. Cheers Tony |

All right went to the ACL site and the JP site this is what they list online. Don't know if all these are still around the ACL document was posted online five years ago!
ACL
6KRY2075 STD/040 nothing further noted on these pistons ie standard bore to begin with.
6KRY2663 STD/040/060 The notes state that 3.125 is the standard bore for these pistons.
Thats all ACL had for greys.
JP pistons
JP0191 I beleave are standard 132 pistons
JP0202 are standard for 138
JP0220 are 3.125 overbore no +040/060
JP0527 are 3.1875 overbore no+
JP0196 are 3.250 overbore n0+
So there you have it.

By my calculatons this is what you would get, I have not includes the ACL pistons as they atate that standard bore is 3.125 so something is amiss. Would be interesting to hear from anyone who is running the 3.1875 or 3.25 inch pistons! So, what is the maximum size you guys would recommend for a 3" bore/132 cubic inch block? I am thinking 3 1/8 +40 thou. if I can get the pistons & rings
I have my original FC block which has some deep marks in the bore from broken rings from a past owner who just didn't understand how to treat the car.
Any advice appreciated.

Well Trevor JP supply pistons to 3 1/4 inch, no one has posted that its no good, so get what you can and go for it.

I have just found out that my bore size is 3 3/16" while rebuilding my FC motor.......... now to find some oil rings to fit
