Can anyone let me know if it is compulsary to have  wiper washers installed to get a roadworthy in VIC? My Friend has told me that they are required, however the FC ute that I own has never had them. I assumed that they would be like seatbelts.

Also if anyone has some photos of where to install heaters in the centre of the fire wall it would be appreciated.

Mitch,  as long as the car is in basically stock condition then you don't need them for a r/w.   However if there is an old washer bottle installed in the engine bay, then they must work.  The same rule applies for any accessory fitted to a car when it is presented for r/w.  eg driving lights or reverse lights etc.  So before you go for the test, remove anything that you know doesn't work that wasn't on the car originally.

If the car is modified, then the rules change, as an engineer may insist on certain things being fitted to bring the car up to required safety standards.

The heater is not generally installed in the centre of the firewall, it is in front of the passenger.  If you want to install it in the centre the only requirement you need to take into account is to position it so the hoses dont hit the motor as they come through the firewall.

We have had so many requests for heater mounting position maybe we should post the template and some of the relevant discussion in the tech section of the club site.  What do you think Richard ?

Ken,

Sure - can you email me the template and whatever instructions you think need to go with it, and I'll do the rest.

cheers
