Hey Nick
Great Pics Mate ,  that's only the second V8 racer I've seen.   The other one below (sorry not good pic) was built by Bill Slattery , these are the similar era as mine , 1970.
    Love those "chunky" tyres   Cheesy

Hate to tell you this, Nick, but I reckon pic no. 2 (the red one) is a Mark 2 F#@d Zephyr.  It looks like the bonnet and guards are one piece, suggesting it had been converted to a tilt forward bonnet.  I also reckon the ngative has been reversed, resulting in what appears to be a left-hand-drive in a r-h-d car.

Hey Martin
The FE could be LHD , because Slattery's was , I think  it was something to dowith the steering being easier to set up when the V8 was in there, also it looks like coming through BP corner around that time , I'm sure there was a wooden fence there & the 77 looks to be the right way.  As for the Zephyr , not sure on that one , L/RHD , but sure is a lift-off front.
Does the FE look like it's "twisting" at the front ? Mine used to pop the bonnet sometimes around there , NO chassis kits/strengthening those days  Grin  Thats why the "strap" up to the bonnet . Mine had a "whopping big dog collar" on it.

Nice Pics Nick, and thanks for the insight into the 'old days' of racing Norm Wink

The V8 Fe sure scared the Minis out of the way!

Hi Guys.
Cool pics!
Have a close look at the FE hitting that corner. It IS LHD. Number 77 actually. Norm is spot on. Also, see the writing on the guard. Looks as if it is "Bill Slattery".
I heard that it was easier to bung in an 8 when left hand drive (Not sure why), but also made better weight distribution, due to the direction of the torque twist the car experienced.
The second red car is a 56 Zodiac (I am 90% sure) & could quite possibly be LHD. The UK & Aust cars had the wipers pointing the other way, but the US had them pointing the same way as the photo. Maybe a US import? The other car in the background looks as if it has someone in the drivers seat (RHD).

I'm hardly an expert, but Norm and Rob are on the money.  I remember reading about (never seen one) LHD conversions on race cars with v8's for the reasons rob & norm have already mentioned.

Hi Nick,

That FC wagon (what's left of it anyway) seems to have at least one 13 inch 'Tasman' 5 spoke mag on it.  I have a pair of these also, it would be good to have  a set if you think the owner may sell?

Cheers

Peter,I reckon that it is a Globe Alloy rim, as used on LJ GTR XU1 Toranas.

Cheers

I found that pic of the wagon on the web about a month ago and it was in a wrecking yard somewhere (possibly in melbourne from memmory)
BUT Im unsure of what search keyword/s I used possibly kustom custom or sled. It wasnt anything to do with FE or FC and I was amazed when this popped up.

Hows this for a spanner in the works

Norm if you can remember the smart arse pic I put in the chatroom of the blue FB and the yellow XD station wagon saying this was your yard in a few years - well that was from the same wrecking yard.

10 points to anyone who can find it Smiley

Here's the site.

http://www.cfhs.com.au/wrecking.htm

The picture url would suggest that the pic was taken 8 May 2003, so I doubt much of it would still be there.
Regards
Alex

FWIW, i'm with spinner on this 1.
