Does the Nasco Dash Rack have a part number and if so what is the number?
Cheers,

The dash rack that I can find shows a drawing of a FJ.
The description reads:
'Coloured plastic rack with suction cup attachments. A handy spot to keep cigarettes, glasses etc.'
Part # M31152.
If this part was maintained through the FE FC life, it would have retained the part #. I have checked the FB parts catalogue and it does not mention the Dash Rack at all. I have seen it advertised in Accelerator during the FE life, the picture was similar, but no part # listed.
There was probably aftermarket suppliers of this item, as there were a few wire dash racks on display at the Nats. Here's a pic of 1 in Brett's wagon.
If anyone has any info on the wire racks and if they are Nasco, feel free to share.

Hope this helps.
Regards
Alex

Hi Guys.
First, sorry I haven't sent the info you needed, Graham, I will get to it.
I do know there are quite a few differnt types of racks. I think that the racks were only actually made for the FX & FJ range, due to the really sloping dash. I have never seen them advertised for later models, but will gladly stand corrected. My Accessories book doesnt list them at all (FE FC accessories) & my FB accessories list, also doesn't list them (But list a stack of other really obscure accesssories). These were both published when the cars were new.
There were aftermarket one available. I have a couple of the same style as the one pictured, with the suckers designed to go onto the windscreen. They are both NOS & have the labels still attached, but the suckers have fallen off (Somewhere in my shed  :-/). The brand is "GT" Window Rack, Australian Made.
I have another NASCO one here (Apart from the one I sold on ebay), but the suckers are a bit perished & don't suck that well!

I am sorry I can't post pictures, my scanner is no longer compatible with my system (Upgraded to XP & it stopped working, DOH!) & I returned the digi camera to my nephew.

Hope that is some help to you guys.

P.s GrahamI could always send them over for you to check out?

As an FE owner in 1963, I can remember them being around. , but FE drivers would not have used them as most kept their fags stuffed up the sleeve of their white T shirt, and never took their sunnies off! Grin      Cool      Mike

Hi Guys.

The rack is shown in the FE accessories brochure (the aqua coloured one), but no part number is mentioned.

Alex, where did you get this from,

" The description reads:
'Coloured plastic rack with suction cup attachments. A handy spot to keep cigarettes, glasses etc.'
Part # M31152."

This is the salient excerpt from the brochure Terry mentions.  The caption reads:
"A convenient holder for cigarettes, sunglasses, or small articles.  Made from coloured plastic".

Hmmm,
Corrected I stand. But, I have never, ever seen a coloured plastic one, only ever the metal wire models. Maybe it was one of those items which never actually made it into production? I recall there being another Nasco accessory that didn't quite make it, but was listed in some books. Maybe Ken knows?

Hi Guys.
I remembered what that accessory was. It was the "Pedal Pads" for the EJ & EH. They were listed in the brochures & even pictured, but were not available for those cars.

Well, just to throw a little more conjecture into the mix, I checked the FC Accessory brochure and it does not show the dash rack amongst the list of accessories.
My feel is that the dash rack available was the same as that offered on the FJ and therefore shared the part # M31152. I vaguely recall seeing a plastic dash rack in an FJ, and if memory serves correct (unreliable at best) it was made of green plastic.

Maybe RET can help here.
RET, you know that FC Accessories catalogue you copied of mine, onto the disc? It lists all the available accessories at that time. The ones still in production at that time. In that, there is no mention of the dash rack that I can see. I am therefore assuming, maybe the FE was the last to have it.

Tony from TAS (aka Tony FC5859) has a copy of the FC Accessories sheets, the same type as the FE one (Which is a lot more common). Maybe he would be able to have a look at that.

Hi Graham.
Do you know of the accessory "Accelorator heel pad"? As far as I can discern, it was actually released with the FB Range, but was retro fitted to all the previous models. I am not 100% sure of this though, but all my findings point in this direction.
But, with the introduction of the EJ range, it was actually pictured in the EJ parts catalogue & also on the accessories brochure, but was NOT offered as an accessory for that model. Nowhere is it listed, & the part number comes up as FB EK only.
Then there is the FB EK EJ Dash clock assembley. People insist it was an accessory for the EH. It wasn't. It was only for FB EK EJ & then some dealers etc, fitted it to the EH. It actually looks out of place on an EH, due to the different dash design. In the EH parts catalogue I have here, it is not listed as EH at all. It lists it as FB EK & EJ (But with the EJ, you have to get a special terminal to make it fit).
Then, there is the EK Accessory "Sill Panel Moulds". These were only released in the EK Range, but again, retro fitted to earlier models (FE FC FB), but still some people insist they were correct accessories.
The lists goes on & on. I have quite a few examples.

But the long & short of it is this, if a dealer fitted it for you, even if your car was a 5 year old FE & the part was only just released for the EK, but was genuine Nasco, is it a genuine FE accessory? Who can say.

Rob,

In answer to your request, I concur.  The FC Accessories Book shows no sign of a dash rack.  I checked another gem I have, a typed "Accessories for FC Holden" price list from WT Coggins dealership.  This is nifty because it has a variety of non-Nasco items as well as the usual 'official merchandise'  Wink  It has not mention of the Dash Rack either.

At home I have a virtually complete collection of Accelerator magazines that predate even the release of the 48-215.  I'll have a bit of a shufti through them and see if I can find either the plastic dash rack or references to plastic or metal ones throughout the FE/FC span.

cheers

Thanks Rob,
I might check some of the paperwork that I've got, to see if I can shed any further light on all the stuff mentioned above

Hey RET.
To save you some time, I have checked Accelerators that I have, so no need to check 1957 except May (no4) or 1958 except NovDec (no10).
Would be interesting to see if they are mentioned throughout 1956 after the release of the FE. Keep in mind that they may have still been offered for the FJ utility though.
Here's a pic from a '55 Accelerator.

I have a picture of the dash rack - a NOS one belonging to a club member.
The part number was cast into the plastic underneath

As far as advertising went in the Accelerator magazine, the last ad for the dash rack is in the Nov 1956 issue.

It was probably deleted for the 57 year
