hi ,
just wondering if a very early fc , say build
no . about 40 , could have been fitted with
a engine out of an fe from the factoy ?

has anyone heard of this happening ?

what about if the car was made on the first
couple of days of production ?

     thanks coolaride  Cheesy

G'day Coolaride.
I have a book which list the FC engine numbers starting at "L439507".  Knowing and hearing of stories of GM in the early days any thing is possible. One very late 59 FC i've seen has a FB interior fitted from factory. I've also seen a first day EK fitted with many FB parts Shocked, but I'm not sure about its motor :-/

Coolaride,  I think it is unlikely.
FC-225-19M was fitted with L443418 from the factory, this is about 4000 engines past the break point for FC as pointed out by "air chief" which means there were a surplus of engines for the early FC prototypes.

This car was most likely a prototype as its chassis number was 8-51144M.  GENUINE!!!!!!!!
The chassis number is still in the FE sequence.

FC-225-346M was fitted with L452569 with chassis number 8-1629M

Actually the reverse seems to have happened as I recently found a genuine FE registered 2/5/58 with engine number L450667 which is way past the FC breakpoint.  This car was a low miles vehicle still in the posession of the original owner.

So it seems to me that late FE's were fitted with FC engines rather than early FC's fitted with FE engines.
