Hi Geoff,
How long as the old girl been sitting, and is the motor able to be turned over by hand ?
Next thing I would look at is to see if there is 12Volts at the starter solenoid, this should tell you if your starter or electrics are #uggered, also check the earthing of the battery and motor to the chassis. Originally this was done as negative of battery to water pump mounting bolt and from gearbox across to body. I have seen alot guys put an earth from the battery to the body as well as the motor and do away with the one at the gearbox

Hope this helps

Happy new Year

Do you get a click from the starter solenoid?
Maybe the starter/solenoid is dead

Was the car outside or in damp conditions?
Check all your important connections and earths especially around the starter and dizzy, maybe give them a clean just to be sure.

Geoff,
Do the things that Chris has suggested. MAKE SURE that your battery is ok. You can have 10volts on your battery, which is enough to power small bulbs, but not enough to turn motor over.

Battery is ok,starts EK fine.Have 12v down to solenoid when key is turned.Gave starter a belt and it tried to turn but didnt sound right,so i think starter is RS.Will check the lights problem next.

Thanks Geoff

Geoff,
If the EK has a grey motor, through the starter into the FC, I am pretty sure they are the same.

Geoff,

If other searching doesn't locate your headlight problem, try pulling the headlight switch apart.

Back in July 2004 I wrote a bit about repairs to light swtiches.  You'll find it here:

http://www.fefcholden.org.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=howto;action=di splay;num=1091145598

It's on the General technical board, page 5

Turned out to be a faulty Hi Beam switch.
