What type of fuel pump should I use for a worked 202 with triple CD 150 Stromberg carbs.

I've been told that the factory glass bowl type won;t pump enough volume for triples on a worked 202 ( 206 ) Red motor, so I may have to go electric.

Holley Red don't need regulators but may not be enough volume either, and a holley blue which would be enough volume would need a pressure regulator.

What is the best and most effective / value for money option ?

There's an article on this very subject in this month's Street Machine.  I don't have it with me, but from memory the Holley Red was considered a pretty good all-round performer for anything that wasn't too wild, and they tend to presume V8 applications.

You're right about the stock pump being starved though, with your setup I would think you're best off replacing it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I've been having the same problem choosing a pump for my mild 138 with twin strommies, if any one can recomend a pump that would suit, i would appreciate it.

Im using a neat lift pump to feed my surge tank which would also do the job for you guys.

made by "Carter" has all the bracketry etc included.

I am not sure of the exact specs, but I have the original style pump on my 202. Instead of a glass bowl it has a metal cover, I assume it is a hi volume pump as my mechanic fitted it to work with the 4BBL Holley. Never had a fuel delivery problem whilst driving or racing.

I think RET is referring to the Urban Warfare (Mark Arblaster) article from an issue or threeo ago (Dec out now). The interesting part was that the electric pumps being a constant speed may not pump enough fuel at higher revs.

I've been told but no proof to confirm that the Commodore blue/black motor pumps are better than the red motor glass bowl pumps.
I'm fitting a Repco brand electric fuel pump to a 229 V6 Chev 2 barrel carb, it looks like a Facet brand pump.
I had 2 pumps to choose from due to the different fuel delivery capabilities of each pump.
I end up buying the one that would flow enough to supply a 4 barrel V8.
There is no regulator to adjust and was CHEAPER than the name brand performance pumps.
Remember to fit electric pumps as close as possible to the fuel tank as they are better at pushing fuel than sucking fuel.

Mark and HYSTERIA,
Why not fit a V8 Small Block Chev fuel pump.
It will fit with minor mods and they're cheap. Wink

with the grey motor you can use the cheap electric pumps as they have worked well on a couple of hot greys i had in the eighties,you know the jap type square shaped ones that just bolt to the chassis ,very simple and work well,i have pulled them from mazdas at the tip and have had great success .but doubt they would handle very hot red and blue or black reds with tripples.

Hi Guys.

Ace is correct, the Small Block Chev (mechanical) pump is the go. Simple, cheap & reliable & no noise. Electic pumps are always noisy & unreliable.

XU-1s won Bathurst with a stock glass bowl pump. But if you need more volume, go the Chev.

Hey Mark
       I have a 192 in the "Beast" (will stick to that name, RET called it that many moons ago , sounds good & suits) . I'm running triple 1 3/4 SU's , with a pretty lumpy cam and with the old motor ( 186 ) was able to pull 8,500 revs using the old red glass bowl fuel pump . The new motor , which has never been raced , was dyno'd at 245 HP when it was built , I suppose I could get more out of it with a better pump , but I'm quite happy with what I'm running.  More power than 10" slicks can take .

Just thought I'd re-open this thread, as I'm hoping someone can answer Nicko's question about " Does a SB Chev Pump fit up to a Red 6 ? " as I think I am going to go down the road of a nice chromed Holley Mechanical pump, but they don't list HOLDEN as a fitment, just the SB CHev .

I think this woudl be a good compromise between electric and mechanical, as Holley would be a better quality product than say a fuelmiser brand, but has the benefits of mechanical operation (ie) the faster the motor goes, teh faster the pumps pumps, unlike an electric.

Holley mechanical pumps are not cheap, but if I had to buy an electric pump, pressure regulator, swirl pot ect ect...would cost heaps more.

So back to my and nicko's question......does the SB CHev Holley Mechanical pump, fit the holden red 6 motor ?

I ran a SB Chev fuel pump on a 202 speedway donk , had to modify the pump arm , it bolts up to the block no worries

Blacky...what do you mean "modify the pump arm" ?

How exactly ?

I've just ordered my pump cause I was told it would do the trick ( told by the Holley guy himself )...forked out my $120 and should be here this morning.......are you saying that I now have to change it somehow ?

What's involved ?
