It's an old hot-rodder's trick for brake lights. A small round jewel shaped piece of blue plastic is mounted in the taillight lense ie drill hole and push blue dot in.
I didn't really see the sense in it until I was behind a hot-rod one night when he hit the brakes. The blue dot gives the brake lights a purple hue, looks wild, well I like it anyway Smiley

Right, I know exactly what you mean and they look great on EK's.  I had actually tracked a set down for mine that I had forgotten about so your posting this has prompted me to send an email to see if they are still available. Wink

If anyone else wants some new blue dots, I can get hold of some more when I grab mine.  You will be looking at $25 including postage which is on par with American Auto Parts who quoted me $17.50 plus $7.90 postage.

See post below, can now get them for $16 inc postage

If you live near them then you are better off dropping by and picking up a set.  Send me an email at greenroom.avon.net.au if you don't live near by and are interested.

Cheers,
Burnsy

I think they are illegal strictly speaking, as a fair portion of the red reflector within the lens needs to be cut out for placement.

you would need to come across the plod on a very bad day to be pinned for it tho i would think.

Cheers

It's $25 for a set of blue dots with the chrome bezel that goes around it, no lenses, you have to drill out your own lenses.

I know that these are illegal in some states in America so it is probably the same here.  I saw an EK today with an old set fitted.  I think you might find that they would get picked up during a roadworthy but it is unlikely they would be picked up whilst driving around.  Drill out your worst set of lenses and keep your good ones.  As for us over in the west, no roadworthys so we are lucky, also the police are probably to busy chasing ricers with their new hoon legislation to worry about an old holden that has blue dots fitted (so long as the rest of it ain't falling apart and none of us drive cars like that - right  Shocked).

Hmmmm, something of a paradox inherent there....  :-/

I have been looking for these for months and after getting enthused by this post I have just found another supplier closer to home and have fitted them.  It is bloody hard to drill a hole cental on the lense using a spade bit  Wink but the cost of a normal 22mm bit would have been more than the dots!  Anyhow they made my cracked and crazed lenses look alot better Grin

If anyone else wants some I can now get them to you via Aust Post for $16 including postage, that is for a set of two the same as the one in this pic.
