I'm after a hub cap lever that won't damage my trim rings when I lever the caps off.

Can anybody help, please?  Slim?  Ken?  Rob (4Hammers)?

I don't even know what they look like - but there must be some special tool for the job.

Yes there is a special hubcap removal tool , That allows you to remove the hubcap without damaging the dressrim. I have sent you a Pm regarding one I have. Cheers SLIM
