G'Day All,
I have recently purchased an FB STANDARD Sedan.
1st lady owner done 6,000 miles up to 1976.
She sold it to her next door neighbour who had the odometer reading 13,500 miles  Shocked up to 1982 when it was shown at the Mundaring Holden Show Day.
It then travelled another 300 miles Shocked  until 1998 where it was shown at the G M Owners Day, (Holdens 50th Anniversary).
As i drove it out of his drive way the odometer ticked over to 14,000 miles. Grin Grin Grin
This car can only be described as unf#%enbeliveable.
The floor pan is all PURE STEEL, no sprayon tar or black paint, all original right down to the body paint overspray.
It has had some paintwork to some panels and the interior is like new.
So SMOOTH to drive compared to my FC ute,but not as good looking as the FC/E.
So since its ONLY an FB STANDARD with buggerall chrome, should i HOTROD it with a hot 6/V8 and the usual drive line and suspension mods and turn it into a sleeper  :-/ or should i drive it as a yesteryears car. Roll Eyes :-/

hmm.. alternatively you could sell off all the resto bits to a restorer and use the good body as a kick ass modified.

finding one in such good nick plays its part for all parties!

depends what u hold in higher value.

Cheers

Seb,

My advice would be to preserve it as you found it. An FB standard is a rare car, let alone one with 14K miles. I have a FC sedan with similar miles, and I know what you mean by an unbelievable driving experience. Even a fastidiously restored car would be hard pressed to match it.

There are still a number of good bodies to be found out there for project cars. I came across an immaculate FC body recently for less than $400. the trick is to be patient and not buy the first thing that pops up.

Ultimately it is your decision of course, but owning a car like you describe is indeed a rare experience.

Regards

Definately keep it as an unmolested original, and get another unoriginal body to hotrod.  I would love to see some photos as standards are quite rare.

Dont destroy a rare peice like that.

The best thing about owning a car like you found is the experiance and enjoyment you will get when you cruise in it, and I belive you have already had that.

You may think I'm wrong but I do have a nice stock FE and a  horny modified FJ panel Van and soon to have finished, a trick modified FC by the Nats, So from experiance going back in time is great as life is to fast.

Love to see it if you our way. (Canberra)

Seb.
I can only assume you are taking the piss. :-/

BUT, if for some reason you are actually considering that, I can do you a deal. I have a Body Only of a lovely EK Standard, which is perfect for modifying. You send that worthless old FB standard sedan down to 4hammers & he will send you this BEAUTIFUL EK wagon for you to chop, hack, lower & squeeze whatever you like into it.

If not, let me know when you want to sell that old chromeless plain FB bomb & I am sure I can scratch up the pennies to make it a Tassie car. Grin

p.s. I have an FB Standard as well. What colour is yours? What are the chances of getting the compliance plate details? Mine is a very low FB (Number FB-215-104 M).

Australia’s tilt at a yank tank, tail fin heaven, poverty packs are scarce in the early models, especially in low mileage examples that you describe.
It will continue to appreciate in value, because of it's rarity, if altered or modified you have lost it forever.
What colour is it?

Good onya Seb.  Cars like this are like rocking horse poop - they just don't exist.  This is a real collector.  I'd love to know how much you paid the poor old bugger for it!  The thing's probably still got the factory-fitted tyres.

Terrific find.  Can't wait to see the pics.

No i'm not taking the piss out of any one.
If i do hotrod it, its a long way off due to other projects.
If i go this way the modifications will be done without butchering the body with the exception of the trans tunnel unfortunatly.Unless i can graft an EK auto tunnel in it.
I was thinking of transfering the FB running gear, suspension, steering and brakes to the FC ute.
I'll post the ID details, and photos will have to be done by someone who can post them here.
If i'm free on the next Club run or Meeting i'm sure one
of the guys/gals can take a photo of it.
I can't chop it due to not having a big enough grinder. Tongue,Harko you may have to give me some lessons. Are'nt the FB's a Far Better model than the EK? Tongue
Anyway if i decide to sell, it will offered to fe2ek 1st then 4 hammers and whoever else in order.( i'm a man of my word).
Until then i'll enjoy the FB for what it is. Smiley

Yes i've been told its a rare find.
The poor old bugger i bought it off is'nt poor, i paid top dollar for it.
Yes it does have the original uncracked factory tyres on it,the owners and service manual, a Scientific Publications manual FE to FB all in mint condition and the large FB worksop manual.
