Howdy,
a mate is keen to get a mid 50's car couch for his shop.
Does anyone have one for sale, in Melbourne or nearby.
I guess interstate freight would kill.
Or does anyone build them to order?
Heard  there was a Customline one in the Trading Post recently.
Any leads greatly appreciated.
thanks
Tony

I saw a fibreglass EK couch at a car show years ago, you may get lucky if you call a few fibreglassers.

Gday 56 Aussie ,Ive built 2 of these so far ,

One was an EK sedan boot with tilli kit working lights ,painted 2k blue with black trim and nos chrome.

Second one was an FC sedan boot painted 2k candy apple red with white trim ,A built in Water resistant CD player and speakers ,Neon lighting underneath ,
Both utilised the parcel tray area which was also trimmed and levelled out and both had tube frames ,moulded 2 and 3 grade foam seating and heavy duty castors with brakes.
Both also fit through your average front door and are easily lifted by two people

If he is interested pass on my number 0405309325.
Im south of wollongong so a 6*4 trailer which they fit snugly in would be recomended or I have a few other options on hand

Thanks for that Harko.

After I did a fair bit of research, my mate picked up a fabulous orange retro reco sofa from an upholsterer. Gotta love that.

I had seen your candy red one in an earlier post.
It looks awesome.
Dont know about your hairdressing gig but  the couch looks like you didnt go overboard. Very tasty.

The Castlemaine Rod Shop have fibreglass EK lounges available.  Apparently just paint and add your trim and chrome.

The Rod Shop one is about $1500, fibreglass shell, no paint, lights or shiny bits.
Theres another mob called STREET MACHINE FURNITURE in Newport Victoria, 0417 351 421.
He has 56 custa, 57 chev, xy gt, hq. All fibreglass. All around $2k finished.
I guess the $2k figure is the benchmark unless you can diy.
For Joe Average ( not a car resto type ) any kind of out-there couch is in that price bracket anyway.

There's also a '59 Caddy one in the current Shannons Auction that was mentioned in the Auction & Trade Board recently.  Looks a bit cartoonish, but might sell for substantially less than estimate - it has no reserve.

cheers

The EK one sold for $1800 on Ebay and that ugly fibreglass replica Cadillac one for $1700 at Shannons. The EK one looked ok but the Caddy was incorrectly proportioned.

I have photos here of a couple of proper Caddy ones, FC, EK, 55 Chev, 54 Chev 56 Chev (a friend built these and they are in clothing shops in Qld I believe) and my own personal 57 Chev couch. Will try and dig them out to post i anyone wants to see them. The FC was blue and red (Rebel colours - I think that was the shop name) and looked great!
