These have been popping up on ebay for the past few weeks, does anyone know where they are being made/sold?  They are opening at $145, is someone buying them off the shelf for less than this and listing them for the unsuspecting or is this a reasonable price?

Hi Burnsy,
these gears are done by a bloke in SA, they were sold a while ago by this fella and I bought a spare set to put on the shelf. A friend in the Berrima car club did his timing gears coming back from the Bay to Birdwood run. He has fitted the ones I had and reckons you can hardly hear them. I have not heard the motor yet.

The reason he fitted mine is the machine that is used to make them broke and took a while to fix. This is why they are now back on the market.
My friend rang me today to tell me he has got a replacement set for mine, so I will know soon if they are as good.
The bad thing though, and I dont know if its "GOSPEL" is that apparently he only has about 20 sets and is considering not making any more
I paid approx $100 12 months ago !!!

Hey Chris, remember that Berrima run ages ago when we both did timing gears on the same day?  That really sucked.  I reckon the first three original sets that I went thru were actually made outta pressed weetbix.

Anyway Burnsy, I also got a set of those steel ones from SA and since then they've been great, years later there's still very little noise and so far, strong as...  <fingers crossed>  If those ebay ones are from the same machine, I can recommend them.

Cheers, Tim.

Thanks for the info guys, I don't have the money to buy a set for the shelf at the moment so I with have to bank on the theory that if the guy is selling enough he will make more.

Cheers,
Mike
