How much can I shave the edges off the side of the spring tower before falling foul of the law?
To get enough room  for a good turning circle , I need to cut about 10 -12 mm, where the caliper will hit.  Keeping in mind the fact that I need a blue plate.
Has anyone been down this road before?
Thanks
andy

Andy, it should be alright taking this much off the lip on the tower, but if your engineer is hesitant, weld on a reinforcing plate underneath the remaining section to make it stronger.
Unfortunately there is no hard & fast rule as the engineers report is subjective
