cheapest way to get seats resprung?

The front bench seat on my FC needs to be resprung. What would be the cheapest way to get have this done?

What it be cheaper to just replace the seat with one of the same colour scheme (black and white)

or maybe...

Get an auto trimmer do repair it?. i am unsure and as the car is intended as a daily driver i don't want to spend to much money on it, although i can't drive to car as is when  your bum goes through the seat and you are sitting on the floorpan!

Also...

How much would each of these alternatives possibly cost me and who would be the best to fix it in Victoria.

I'm sure some guys from the Vic club can point you in the right direction, but FWIW I had my car's front seat resprung about 12 months ago.  It cost $400, which included all frayed stitching and piping repaired, both side panels replaced (the bit that gets torn by the sharp edges under the plastic seat surrounds, for which I supplied material), all springs fixed and new padding.

I was very happy with the job done, but obviously that was in Sydney.

I recently had a seat resprung and completely recovered for $650, once again in Sydney.

From a safety aspect, let alone the visual improvement to the interior, I consider it money well spent.

Considering the cars are more than 40 years old, you may find a seat with better springs than your own, but you would be indeed fortunate to find one that suited your interior scheme.

Good luck with it though. I've been proven wrong many times before!

"You get what you pay for"
The cheapest way, would be to do it yourself, if you went to any upholsterer they should have springs to suit. It would probably be a good idea to take one with you.
From memory, you'd be able to tip the seat over and work from underneath. A pair of side-cutters to get the old springs out and then all you need is the special fencing pliers (with little cups on each side to hold the clips as you close them) and clips to put new ones back in.
If all that doesn't work, you could just get the upholstery springs and add to the existing ones.

I have a couple of numbers in Melbourne for interior stuff and they are both pretty decent places, for interior re-trim and upholstry etc also advice on seat is:

Barry Hopkins Motor Trimmers at Hotham Pde, Artarmon are the trimmers I used.

My red and black seat was able to be matched quite closely vis colour and texture/grain of the vinyl, however nothing was close to the blue of the ute seat he is doing for me now, so I settled for a slightly different shade.

About ten years ago he refurbished a complete interior for me, replacing only half the vinyl in the seats and door trims, and repairing springs etc. He performed an excellent job on that as well.

Certainly not the cheapest around, but I can recommend his work with confidence.
