Hi Chainsaw,
I've used a 65amp Bosch alternator with built in regulator with a modified red motor mounting bracket.
Hope this helps, Wink

Thanks Ace Wink Can you please tell me; What was the Alternator off ? how much did you need to alter the bracket and what if any changes to the wireing? Are you happy with the change?  Huh Have had my FE for 7 years with little trouble but starting to need a little work now.  Kiss

ACE,
Any chance of posting the wiring instructions?
I've got a self regulating 55 amp unit that was removed during a respray. I've done some re-wiring as well and now not sure about the main power out wire ie the one that comes from the threaded terminal with nut. I assume this goes straight to the postitive termianl on the battery??
The other connection is a spade connection which I assume goes to the Gen indicator light in the instrumentation panel?

Thanks,

Thanks ACE,
good to be sure of the correct wiring - saves the embarrassment of sparks, smoke and a panicked rush for the fire extinguisher!

There seems to be a lot of interest in this topic.  ACE, how about you send me the info and we can add it to our Tech Info section?

cheers

I put an HQ alternator in my EJ (14V 55amp) . It had an external regulator (also HQ I think) which bolted into the same position as the original and even used the original bolt holes. Hooked up to the original wiring too I think.  If the same regulator was used in the FE/FC this might work. Details are a bit sketchy as it was a while back.
