if i owned my own house i would get a loan straight away, i think its great value at $16,000.

I think that may be the 1 owned by Darryl Miller, and resided on the Gold Coast for awhile. Car was built in the 60's by Paul "Shorty" Workman and was registered as a convertable. The car was red and white when rediscovered in a chook shed, but the rear was subsequently repainted black (to match the roof). If the same car, it would seem it has been resprayed. Car had a Vauxhaul chassis under it. Sold for around $11,000 about 12 years ago.

Here's a pic of the car I am talking about when Darryl had it around 1990.

was the vauxhaul chassis a popular thing,and does anyone know what advantage was in it if any?

Yeah Im with you nicko , Some advantages would be - being able to drop the body over the chassis at what height you want it ,like 7 inches lower without altering suspension just the floor which would be better flattened anyways, especialy if you got a chopped ute and need headroom hehe.
also if the vauxhall was a heavier car it will allow a bigger engine for engineering. also as he has done with a convertible it will allow much more ridgitity and torsional strength.
And just to add to that Ive been sending myself stupid trying to find a chassis that is the same wheelbase and track width for bloody ages , I had a chevy luv chassis lined up which accidentialy on purpose  got picked up by the scrap metal dealership after a misunderstanding or should i say ignorant arrogant dude spun out .

Alex do you know anymore? like what model Vauxhall or possibly dimensions or even some more info on the owner so I could try to contact him ?

And hey - love the car, awesome.

Hey Harko.
The car used a 55 Hillman hood bows and side glass. I can't remember what Vauxhaul the chassis belonged to, and to be honest, my memory may be wrong....but I don't think so. Darryl headed up the Kustom Kruisers of Australia (KKOA) for awhile. The last details I had on him was a PO box.......Box 7 Fingal head 2487. I think he owned a business called the Sugar Shack up there. If I find time, I will try to find the old KKOA newsletters, as I was a member before the club disbanded.
BTW...regarding a chassis that fits.....YGM.

Apparently it doesn't have a full chassis, but perhaps the rails that were installed were cut up from a Vauxhall donor?

The Hillman window detail is correct, and it was built by "Shorty" around 1970.

It's been registered as a convertible since then.

Does anyone know any more about the history of this car?

Was it featured in any old custom or rodding magazines, and if so, does anyone have a copy of the same?

Hey Harko,

I too am toying with the idea of a full chassis.
Two ways of thinking at the moment...

1) Copying the rear chassis and extending forward to build a complete full chassis so would have the capability of a strut front end and a flip front.

2) Find a suitable full chassis and modify to the car.
 
I saw a new Commodore dropside ute with the rear of the chassis exposed but haven't had the time to see whether or not this is a full one.

Would like to put a singin' and dancin' 5.7litre in something... Maybe the next generation motor.  Grin Grin Grin


Convertable ute maybe?
Convertable?
Another Van?
Crew cab FE?
Hot rod FE/FC?
HRT FE... Like the drawing?

Jason,

I think a "Chevy Nomad" style FC based on a panel van with extended front doors with a raked window frame and full side glass would hit the spot....... Maybe with the new C.O.M.E racing alloy block.....

Hey ED ,Ive patented the photoshopped images i have done and the project is underway mate - so dont say that too loudly huh  hehe.
I got the smoothed subframe back from the sandblasters today and Im typing with etch primer on my fingers.the v6 is just waiting for placement and the roof is coming soon.so be prepared to see some butchery real soon.

Harko,

I had no idea, however I've just looked through your post on the topic, in "Unreal Cars" and see that you have obviously stolen my idea, apparently some time before I considered it!  Grin

Not only that, but you are well advanced with it, and you appear to have the skills and capabilities to carry it off. Damn you...

Can I commission a second one? It should be easier, as I am happy with the standard roof height.

BTW, will there be a Wollongong contingent attending the Historic Car Races at Eastern Creek this Sunday at the club run?

I emailed them to get a photo with the lid up but it dosen't have one as they wanted a white roof as it had a black oneso they took it offand all that's there is the frame so you had to get a top done to finish it looked great though Michael
