Although I live in NSW, the guys at the PPG Master Distributors Centre (was Dulux) told me they can mix any colour from any time. You could try one of these places? or ring for your local distibutor?

My brother was National Training Manager for PPG and has checked and the information on the database which indicates this colour was used by the La Trobe Bus Company in the late 50's to paint buses !!!!
It is only available as an enamel NOT acrylic.
He is chasing more info and I'll post his response ASAP. Can you give more info to allow him to track it down ?
Was the car only Etna Maroon or was it a two colour scheme ?

You can contact me at calderson@yahoo.com.au

Craig,         Thankyou very much for your reply. To fill you in on a bit more info I am restoring a FC ute which belonged to my grandad and it was originally Duchess Green but when he bought it ,it had been refinished black and I do not want to use either of these colours. I had found the fefc club sight on the net and it actually lists all the original colour schemes on one of there tech info pages. I also read here that Etna Maroon (7457) was the first metallic colour used by Holden and thought it could be a good two tone scheme to go with as I am fitting the special moulds. Yes I know it is not keeping it original but I am trying to get the hotted up look from the day as I have seen a ute done in two tone Teal Green and Off White and it looked great.Anyway thankyou and your brother once again and I hope this sheds a bit more light.             Regards,                         Lincoln. PS Tried emailing it to the address you gave me but it came back undeliverable.  Can you email me at my address: lincolnandcarol@westnet.com.au thanks

Hi Lincoln,
Sorry about the email address mix up, you were (un)lucky enough to be given an inbred version of my personal and work address' !!! This working 14 hours a day must be starting to affect me :-)
As I indicated previously there are no easily available records of an acrylic type mix of Etna Maroon, but if you are not restoring a vehicle to absolute original the choice of a 2 pack enamel would be a better one anyway.

A visit to your local Dulux (PPG) trade centre would be more than worthwhile so you can choose the exact colours you want. Some PPG offices also have an electronic tool that will give a paint mix from a colour sample. They also have excellent technical assistance so don't be afraid to hassle them.

Let me know if I can be of more assistance.

Good luck with your project.
Best Regards,

Craig.
