Thanks Seb, About the rego - I would have assumed the rego plate should have been KA then some numbers.  I had the feeling that WA number plates (early that is - around the 50's) started with the first 2 letters of the towns name.  The FC I got from Denmark was registered DE 137  That is it was the 137th car registered in Denmark.

Ken..just to give you some info on WA licence plates.
Sebs ute rego stands for Kalgoolie Municipal Council i.e. a town ute
There are a lot of country towns over here that have rego plates that dont have the first two letters of the town . The one that is the most confusing is MBL from the shire of MUKINBUDIN in the eastern wheatbelt or the small coastal fishing town of DONGARA. Its plates are IR because it is in the shire of IRWIN, even though the township of IRWIN is about 15k away and would be struggling to have anyone living in the township
Another is NARROGIN the town cars are NGN and the shire cars have the plates  NO
The town of MOUNT BARKER have the plates PL as the shire name is PLANTAGENET

Thanks for that Gary

WA number plates are absolutely fascinating - the only ones in Australia to use place names as the system for number plate lettering.
What did Perth cars start with or any of the other major cities?
I'm keen to learn more about these odd plates.
