I just pulled a gearbox out of an ek with a red motor in it and im trying to identify the Gearbox. It doesn't appear in my 20 year Fx to HR Master parts catalogue and im wondering if its a Torana or HT HG HK gearbox. Can anyone identify this Holden part number for me 7433725 (case)   and 7433771 on the selector side cover. Any help appreciated.. cheers Slim

Slim,

It should be an Aussie 3-speed, all synchro. Used in HK through WB Holdens as well as LC-LX Toranas.

To work out what model it came out of, you need the date code cast into the casing (just like identifying a grey crashbox). The date code will be something like J259.

The letters represent casting month, with the letter “I” not used i.e.:
• A = January
• B = February
• C = March
• D = April
• E = May
• F = June
• G = July
• H = August
• J = September
• K = October
• L = November
• M = December

The first two digits (or first digit and space) indicate casting day. For example, 25 would be the 25th day of some month.

The last digit indicates the year
• 8 = 1968 or 1978 (HK, HZ or LX)
• 9 = 1969 or 1979 (HK, HT, HZ or LC)
• 0 = 1970 or 1980 (HT, HG, HZ, WB or LC)
• 1 = 1971 or 1981 (HG, HQ, WB or LC)
• 2 = 1972 or 1982 (HQ, WB, LC or LJ)
• 3 = 1973 or 1983 (HQ, WB or LJ)
• 4 = 1974 or 1984 (HQ, HJ, WB, LJ or LH)
• 5 = 1975 (HJ or LH)
• 6 = 1976 (HJ, HX, LH or LX)
• 7 = 1977 (HX, HZ or LX)

For example, J259 would be being the 25th of September in either 1969 or 1979 (HK, HT, HZ or LC).

Cheers,
Harv (deputy apprentice crashbox fiddler).
