Hi Trev
This is in the section of Modern Motor Sept. 78 .. It says "GMH bought 20 hectares of land at Fishermans Bend in July 1935 , and started building it's new head office , assembly plant & warehouse. It was opened in Oct. 1936 by Prime Minister Joe Lyons
    Cheers
     Norm

PS looks like I gotta get Harko up here for another 10 weekends to get through all the books  Grin

Here's another pic of Fishermans Bend taken in 1936. Not much around the plant back then, not like now.
They used to hold race meetings at Fishermans bend with former aircraft runways providing a ready-made surface. Before Sandown and Calder, FB was the main centre of Melbourne motor sport.
