I researched 185/80 13'' price and availability here in WA, not a lot to choose from $180-$210 ea. Nankang cn25 light commercial are a bit better at $130. and a 185/70 is also available. 175/70 are a lot more plentiful and cheaper, are there any pictures I can google to see how they would look on an fc? Cheers.

You could try talking to Purnell Tyres at Logan QLD. I hear they have a good range for older cars including 13”, and happy to ship.

Thank you Errol, no surprise that WA the nanny state is the dearest. I may have to wait until they have a special offer eg 4 for the price of 3, I am still interested in any pics of cars with 175's on them they are about half the price over here.

So what I went for in the end (after a lot of ringing around) was Maxtrek 175 C (c being light commercial) the 185 I was told is for a wider rim at the tire place, I used the rims of a Fe  parts car I have as they were in better condition than the FC's and had never been repainted however cleaning them is another story and I would suggest sandblasting? if doing it again. I had tubes fitted came to a total of $420 (I know probably $300 in the Eastern States). Now it ill be easier to move about when I find the long term spot in the shed, I will put it on (can't think of the name at the moment - Jacks?) or those steel adjustable things and remove the tires. Just an added note the hight of the tire is 60cm, an old 6.50 That I have is 61cm, can't remember what original 6.40 is but I am sure someone did tell me. Cheers.

Ronno ..I would be interested in the comparison of the diameter of your 175 tyre and mine ..Yours being LT and mine being passenger both on FE - FC original rims . ..Mine are not on rims yet ,still awaiting painting ,lets say at 22 psi ..If yours are done and fitted on rims and care to measure ,send it to me and i'll make a note and reply in due course...You are right sand blasting is the best way to clean 60 yr old rims...cheers Vern

@ 40 lb (i had more air put in to make it easier to move) they measure 1925 mm round, how does that compare to original 640 I wonder? Widest width/sides of tire is 17 cm tread, width on-road/tread is 12 cm. I would have liked 185s but if the tire guy is right they are not legal here in WA although it would take fussy vehicle inspector, Khumho 185s where extra $120 not much more but my wife is very interested in the project even though she is not a car enthusiast . The Fc, in my opinion, looked like it had too small a rim and tire from new, maybe I should have looked at 14-inch rims but I bet that's not legal either and my guess is the hubcaps don't fit. So a roller skate it is, hopefully a good looking one. Ron

Further note; Errol 62 was kind enough to have measure a cross-ply 650, at 610mm with a circumference of 1916mm, my tire or tyre is close to original? Though I still have not found what a 640 would be. Ronno

Caps don’t fit on the 14” rims ronno. A couple of cars are running 15” steel rims which take the original cap. They were made by fitting a cut down 13” rim and centre in a 15” rim. Made by a Mob in Perth, they’re not very common. I assume they would be a bit heavier than a standard rim but I like the look of them. Stewy has more info on these if he is on here at the moment.

The ones I have on the FC are 14inch with 13inch FC rim centres fully welded in. They were done in Perth 20 years ago I am told.

Only picture I can find tonight. Can get you better ones if you want.

The 14" rims look very in proportion and easier to find tyre's for I would think.

My mistake 14” not 15” Stewy and at least one other car on here. Easier to get I suppose but not many passenger cars would run 14” these days..
