Q:would there be any problem placing a fuel filter just outside the fuel tank ; as opposed to between the main line & the fuel pump ? Standard grey on FE .it seems the pump would have a longer distance to drag the fuel. ?ta

It won’t make a difference to the load on the pump John. There could be an issue with cavitation if you run the tank dry though. I’ve seen filters fitted against the inner sill under the drivers door. Seems a convenient out of the way place of you don’t want it on the engine bay.
