Can anyone tell me the different front brake discs i can put on my FE.ive read about the HR but is there any other ones you can use

G'Day Kalfe
Holden used the same wheelbearings up to the VP commodore so technically they all fit, however they all have slightly different off sets, diameters etc.
Hadfields makes adapotors to fit just about anything, HQ,P76,Ford (Bad word that).
So it is more a case of what do you need to do the job as to what will fit.
I have x drilled and slotted discs from DBA fitted, standard HR sizes and they do the job for me.
What are your intentions for the car,city driving , highway or racing?

hi john
mainly city and a bit of highway driving
i live in kalgoorlie and i have just joined the fe club in wa
a mate of mine had heard of putting hz discs on FJs
but that would be 15 inch and i havent heard of anybody doing that.
i suppose im better off to source HR discs
i have a 56 FE ive just started to restore so im going to pull the front end off and i was going to do all the brakes at once

The other place to talk to is Hoppers Stoppers in Vic.
They did my conversion for Vt brakes and calipers to my Fe Panel van with the HR front end.

Good to hear your joined the club, HR brakes with booster would be fine for normal driving as long as you don,t have a V8 or something.
DBA rotors and Bendix pads can be bought of the net at following
www.discpads.com.au
I have bought a fair bit of stuff off this lot nether any problems, quick delivery and also bloody good prices.

Kalfe, be aware that if you have a 56 FE then the wheel bearing size is NOT like all later Holdens, it is like the FX/FJ and nothing will fit on this axle.

You will need to fit a set of late 57 onwards kingpins to get the right wheel bearings.

You can fit up to HD drum front brakes on the kingpins

CRS supply a disc brake set up which will bolt to the kingpin front end, but it is a bit difficult to fit with cutting and grinding etc.

Anything better than this requires the installation of a HR front end (full details in tech section).
HR has an optional D/B set up which is OK for 6 cylinder engines
Brakes from all the Toranas can be bolted up but all require a bit of cutting to the A arms to fit the caliper.  All will fit in 13 inch wheels.
If you can only find a drum front HR, then HQ spindles can be bolted in to allow the fitting of all the HQ to HZ brakes including the pretty snazzy HZ alloy calipers
These all require 14 inch wheels.
CRS also offer a kit to fit Leyland P76 discs on the HR spindles - the advantage is that it brings the wheel inside the guard a little further.
Hoppers Stoppers now have a conversion to fit on either the HR spindle or the HQ spindle (HQ is better as this lowers the front an inch) which uses 300 mm x 28 mm thick rotors as used in AU Falcon along with twin piston calipers.  No cutting or grinding required, but 15 inch wheels are required.  Early Holden, HQ, Commodore or Ford stud pattern can be specified (Commodore is good because it allows the use of rims which sit further inside the guard)
We recently fitted these brakes to an EJ with 18 x 8 rims and tyres on the front with no flared guards and no tyres hitting anywhere.
