How's this for a barn (actually a carport) find? Have known about this for several years.........


Washed and no more signs.

Actually most of you have seen it before-some might recall my son ""femad " gazumped me on it after I told him it was 4 sale! Anyway it's come full circle now because it's in my garage! Woohoo.
It now has extra patina and will be kept that way.
Basically no rust repairs needed including the floor! The tray is just old and undamaged.
Sympathetic resto coming up. I'll post more pics in a couple of weeks time when I'm back home.

A couple more shots, nice original (?) tray, not too many dings here!
The floor needs no work and hasn't been repaired before either

Engine Bay looks rusty but the orange colour is actually a coating applied early in its life on both sides of the floor , rear wheel wells and engine bay. Under the floor it is also covered in a black coating. The thick coatings have obviously helped preserve the floor and inner sills.

I have found a small bit of rust in pass sill, right below where a mudflap used to be. The mudflap screw holes were just bogged over.

This is the other obvious rust issue, the usual suspect subframe tie member

New rares piece plug welded in from top

And from underneath

Here's the quick and dirty rattle can engine bay resto, getting ready to reinstall engine and gearbox after I check head condition ( either gasket cactus or head cracked or both!)
As I said in earlier posts this is more a maintain the good overall condition type restoration than a full teardown and "over restoration".
Next jobs are clean front suspension x member then more rattle can, engine check then quick brake overhaul.
My previous post also shows a small patch I welded in on drivers side of the panel the stone tray attaches to (near plug welds). I also made and welded a patch about 175x50 on the passenger sill at about the middle of the door, sorry no pics!

Here's the battery tray, is the rubber cushioning factory fitted?

The condition of the tray is near perfect thanks to the extensive rust proofing done to the vehicle. See my post in General forum.
I wire wheeled around the bottom of the tray until rain forced me indoors. Check out this quality steel- virtually unmarked and perfect rust wise! Bonus!

The problem I have now is where do I stop the restoration. I think I will only make the engine bay very presentable, the alternative is a full nut and bolt resto which isn't going to happen because when I get it going the ute goes back to my son!

Rubber is not factory on the battery tray.
I'm beginning to think the rust proofing was done by a very fussy owner.
