Hi guys. ..
I'm after some advice.
I want to remove to boot lock mech for a cleaner look.
What system can I use to reliably open the boot ?

Or you could do the really cheap option like I did and use a choke style cable!

You would have to swap the mechanisms over so the latch is on the body and the fixed catch plate is on the boot otherwise you will need to run power or a cable into your hinged bootlid.
but shouldnt be to hard.

VT has the power to the bootlid with the solenoid which is where my wires lead right now...

I tapped a thread through my boot lock centre, threaded a bolt in with a lock nut and a arm welded to that to turn it via the release cable. I also used a return spring to reset it, plus mini gas rams to lift the bootlid up. The problem with aftermarket gadgetry these days is they stuff up over time, I must have used a dozen new age boot releases before I went back to my tried and proven stock latch assembly. But then this is our driver so the boot is used regularly.

I use a vs commodore cable, im just in the process of making a handle next to the front seat to pull up. but it does currently work well.

I just use the stock catch and lock mechanism without the exterior part of the lock because it is shaved. Although it is a bit stiff to pull the cable to open, it actually works.
If you open your boot and play with all the little lever thingies you will find the one which needs to be pulled up to release the catch. I can post a photo if you like.You would use the same whether you use manual or electric means!

 Here's a photo of the back of my latch showing the lever which needs to be pulled to pop the latch. The cable is set up to pull the lever towards the front of the car. Sorry for crap phone photo but it was taken in situ! |
