There is a square deflector on the rear axle assembly that is the last bit that goes on before the nuts that hold the rear axle in.  This deflector has slight turn ups on three sides while the other side is flat.  Which position does this flat side go - up or down?

Does the oil drain stud have a flat seal gasket on it?  Currently mine has a spring washer on the stud and I have a very slight oil drip.

From what I understand, The deflector is supposed to stop brake fluid that leaks from the wheel cylinder from getting on the axle shaft and then contaminating / destroying the axle oil seal.
So I have always put the flat edge down.
There should be a copper washer on the drain bolt.

Thanks Ken
I had installed the deflectors with the flat down.  Copper washer now installed on the drain plug.
