Makes me laugh . If it happens to me they wont be getting any money but I'd be spending the time in the prison library and getting an education [you know the free education that most of our pollies got two or three of , that I didn't , that our children will spend  most of their working life paying for] and some free medical and dental. These laws are only useful if they create fear or anger . Haydn

What a crock, if someone wanted to use my car for a wedding and decided I could do with $100 to cover fuel and polish I'd be grateful. If the government then wanted to fine me $15k for helping someone out they had better buy some more blankets coz the prison is going to fill up fast.

As I understand this has come about because of complaints from "legitimate" limosine and hire-car owners, they pay for licenses etc and get the shtits when private cars are used at weddings.
I've heard that some of them stake out weddings and send the relevant authorities the pictures.

I can understand their point if they are seeing someone regularly hiring a private car out to transport people, but I don't think a license gives them exclusive rights to weddings either. Perhaps they could do better with photos of the same car(s) used at several events instead of taking a shotgun approach covering one offs. The practice would certainly turn me away from using a local hire car for anything in the future. My daughters both used private cars for weddings in Canberra. Both girls & my son used private cars/bikes at their college graduations. Some others had limos etc but the owner/drivers were great people to mix with on the day & promoted their services tactfully among the private "competition".

There is supposed to be some sort of loophole that if you are invited to the wedding then it's OK.
People are probably only getting warning letters because they are one offs and the Department cannot prove that they weren't invited, personally I have never heard of a conviction.

They didn't think twice about inviting everyone who provided a car, just like the photographer.
Working out how to reduce the number relatives was another matter.

you can only be fined/jail if you except payment of any type
it's the same if you hit your mates up for petrol money on a trip,

if anything exchanges hand what so ever you need to be a registered business and hold the appropriate licence
if you do it for free it more then legal and so it should be

and i agree if you are payed for the use, then yes why not get fined or inprisonment
every other business need to be register and be licensed for there work why should you not if you getting something out of it, weather it be just cost or not
