called into a Mates shop today to do a little job and always have a nosey look at the goings on around the place as it is a hive of activity and cool stuff often appears,he was in the process of installing a vauxhall crank into a grey, bit past My tiMe but was really cool to see such effort and precision going into such a project,awesoMe to see yesteryears Mods these days Smiley

Not sure if this is going to place to post thoes old school mods
But
the water outlet relocation mod is another good one
Where the head is drilled and tapped for multiple exit points

If some has a pic that can post I can't seem to find any on net

Just thinking out loud; if you get a late head, the one with two tapped holes where the temp sender and heater fitting go, it would be easy to convert to two extra water outlets, two fittings and some plumbing.

I'm sure the racers use these heads to get better water flow back from the back of the head.

People still have the Vauxhall cranks done, pretty expensive though I would imagine.

You would be better going for the entire Vauxhall bottom end [block]as it has more mains and that's the weakness of the sideplate at revs . Haydn

As described so accurately by "Keith EFFCEE"

"This mod was common in Grey motors that engaged in combat on the race track. Due to the poor design of the water circulation throughout the engine, the Grey Motor developed steam pockets in the head when in full war cry, as a result, heads developed cracks and headgaskets felt the need to be elsewhere with great regularity.

To solve this problem the thermostat was blocked off and holes were drilled at even points along the head. A coolant "manifold" was then made up to allow steam pockets to escape and return the water to the radiator."







This is the set up on my race car No 53

Thanks for the descrition and pic of the head modification Grin but I've got to ask, is that brace on the front of the head going to the inner guard?Huh?

Yes Mick,

The brace helps stop the engine mounts getting ripped apart

what did you do with the walking stick, does that go into the catch can as well
